Many of us held this belief that Mobile Mondays happen on Mondays because Monday is the only day of week which begins with M and rhymes with Mobile. But the big secret is out now. Jari’s reasoning behind “Mobile Mondays” reminded me of another Finnish great Linus Torvald’s Linux/Open Source philosophy - Free as in “Free Beer” and not “Free Speech”

MoMo was back with a bang after the brief lull created by the lack of an event in June. The excitement was evident in the room as eager and restless entrepreneurs debated the present and future of advertising around the mobile web in an evolving industry. Zubair Jandali of AdMob satiated the endless stream of questions by addressing the group on impressions, pricing and growth rates.
A case was again made for the creation of local content centered around the interests of local communities as a majority of sites visited still originate from outside the country. It was, however, expressed that innovation in this space is inhibited by the perpetual presence of operators as gate keepers of the mobile world.
The future of publishing and advertising, however, looks bright as 3G services are expected to be rolled out and devices such as the iphone and other mobile web acessing devices become more prevalent; for a taste of what lies in the future: AdMob itself serves over 300 million adds to Indian users per month.
The July event of Mobile Monday Mumbai is on the topic “The Present and Future of the Mobile Web” and will be held on July 28th, 2008.
Thanks to Admob for sponsoring the event and supporting the community.
